IUAA Indoor Championships 2020

The IUAA Indoor Championships took place on Saturday 15th February in Athlone IT. UCC Athletics had one of its most successful indoor seasons yet bringing back a number of medals from the competition.

Annette Quaid came 1st in the women’s 800m in 2:25.65 and Aoife Delargy came fourth in this race. In the 1500m, Shona O’Brien came 2nd and Aisling Kelly placed 3rd. In the 3000m walk, Sarah Constant placed 4th, just outside the podium finishes and our women’s 4x200m relay also finished 4th. Ruby Millet won the women’s long jump in a new UCC record of 5.76m meanwhile, Ciara Hickey and Una Samuels came 2nd and 3rd in the pole vault, respectively. In the triple jump, Grace Furlong also jumped a new UCC record of 12.11m. Overall, our women’s team came 2nd in the medal and points tables.


In the men’s team, David Cussen came 2nd in both the high jump and long jump. In the sprints, Ciaran Dee came 5th in the 400m final and in the men’s walk Ruairi Kennedy placed 4th. In the 3000m David McGlynn ran a new UCC record of 8:26.93, while Eoghan McElhinney also placed 6th in this race.
